A locket is said to hold the secrets of your heart , they have been around for hundreds of years and used to be on rings rather than chains.

Originally lockets were for medication as well as poison!

Traditionally lockets held ashes, a piece of hair or a picture which are worn on a chain around the neck. In Victorian times the heart shaped sterling silver locket was a very popular piece of jewellery which was often embellished with pearls and precious gems.

While the technique for making lockets has improved they are still quite delicate, it is possible these days to engrave them with modern machines that do not use a needle and only scratch the surface.
